People generally are more excited when they’re young. At 43 you don’t feel more radical than 23. At 43 you have way more reasons to be conservative than at 23.
It requires an ability to calculate risks and be ready to accept reasonable success probability. Reasonability depends on your risk tolerance - it’s better to accept higher risks because, when you’re young, you have more chances to try. Understand what’s at stake and can it be replenished.
Your early-career trajectory is very-very important. You can turn later, but at the start, you are most excited, and thus, have the most available energy to put into projects. If you put that valuable and biggest amount of energy you have into a mediocre stuff, you will become a mediocre specialist.
