Good search system allows to find everything under 2 minutes

Notetaking is not only process of writing, more importantly, it is a process of reading.

Through reading we retouch ideas, think on them under different angles, under much bigger set of connections that evolved since first writing.

When note base grows bigger it becomes a concern not only to find ideas, but, more importantly, to even recall them, when you search for connections.

Trait of a good search system - you can find an idea in under 2 minutes. To achieve that, several methods are used:

  • Imagery - your ideas is not just words, it is a strong image, with a good introducing title, which triggers your associations.
  • Global keyword search - good written note has strong keywords (not tags!) that appear throughout the note’s body, they carry distinguishable associative meaning.
  • Map of Contents - groups of ideas are united in the Maps. A Map contains lists of connected ideas under some domain.

System with good health allows you to spend minimal time on adding and connecting notes, it doesn’t introduce obstacles and noise to your notetaking process.
