I feel an extreme level of confidence when i start to understand things, that previously seemed to be impossible.
And when i start to build up on these things, doing my interpretations and forming a derivative knowledge - this is the time of mastery.
Never to worry about unknown. Sometimes we can omit details and treat something as a blackbox. When the time comes to sort things out - jump in the researching like in a cold water.
