100 hours of Civilization VI
Under the release of 7th Civilization title, i’ve finally grasped the central mechanics of Civilization VI. To me it is a big improvement compared to Civ V, many things fixed and many things changed to a better alternative.
I’m not going to rush into newest release, but i’m going to pinpoint several things i’ve done in Civ VI and comment several mechanics.
For past 2 weeks i’ve went from 50 hours to 100 hours playing Civilization VI, and i’ve managed to:
- Beat King difficulty on several maps by war and science.
- Tried to win by culture but it seemed hard.
- Played multiplayer with 4 friends and 4 bots on standard map.
- Tried maps: continents, pangea, archipelago, fractal, inner sea (quite strange generation for small size).
- Tried civilizations: Rome (Caesar), Russia, Incas, Greece (Alexander), Germany.
Things to note:
- Districts mechanic is brilliant, it adds interesting challenge to plan your cities.
- Workers look better with charges.
- Unit connection mechanic is good.
- Groups and armies of war units mechanic is very good.
- Governors mechanic is good.
- Governments mechanic is good.
- Religious wars… quite time-consuming.
- Spies… don’t know yet. They looks quite boring, it’s not fun to defend your districts with spies.
- Air forces - quite good, definitely better than in Civ V. Could be still improved, at least with better controls (some hotkeys are not working).
- Ages mechanic - quite good, an experienced player can get a lot of things from it.
- Very good to see better balance of modern tech war units. In Civ V it was a disaster to see how Infantry unit destroy everything including tanks. In multiplayer many things (such as air) are broken, but still all units more or less viable.
Maybe i will play a couple more games in Civ 6, with increased difficulty and on new maps. I’ll keep an eye on Civilization VII, once the time is right, i will try this out.
